Let shoppers sign up with Shop
Add a Continue with Shop button to the Notify me popup so shoppers sign up with their Shop account.
Last updated
Use this guide if you want shoppers with a Shop account to sign up for back in stock alerts without typing their email. By the end, the “Notify me” popup will show a Continue with Shop button under your signup button. Shoppers tap it, confirm in Shop, and STOQ signs them up with their verified email address.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”| You’ll need | Why |
|---|---|
| Email alerts turned on | Shop only shares the shopper’s email, so the toggle is disabled until email alerts are on. See Turn on email and SMS channels. |
| The Button + Popup form layout | The button shows in the signup popup only. It doesn’t show when the form is set to On page. |
What customers will see
Section titled “What customers will see”- In the “Notify me” popup, under your signup button, an “or” divider and a Continue with Shop button. Shop shows both in the shopper’s language.
- A shopper with a Shop account taps the button and confirms in Shop. STOQ gets their verified email and submits the signup, so there’s no email to type and no typos.
- A shopper without a Shop account can create one in the same step, or type their email into the form as usual.
- If you show the email/SMS channel selector, the button shows only while the shopper has email selected.
- If Customer name is mandatory, the shopper still has to enter their name before tapping the button. Shop doesn’t share the name.
- If Double opt-in is on, the shopper still gets the confirmation email and must confirm it, the same as any other email signup.
- STOQ sends the back in stock alert, the same way as for any other signup. Shop doesn’t send anything.

Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The Show a Continue with Shop button toggle is greyed out
Email alerts are off. On the Signup form tab, click Channels, turn on Email alerts, then come back to Sign in with Shop.
The button doesn't show on the storefront
Check these in order:
- You clicked Save changes after turning the toggle on.
- The form is set to Button + Popup, not On page. The button only shows in the popup.
- If the channel selector is on, the shopper has email selected. The button hides while SMS is selected.
- Shop’s button loads from Shopify. If a browser extension or a strict privacy setting blocks it, the form shows without it and shoppers can still type their email.
Tapping Continue with Shop shows the name error
Customer name is set as mandatory. Shop doesn’t share the shopper’s name, so they need to type it before tapping the button. To allow one-tap signups, open Customer name and uncheck Make this field mandatory.
A shopper signed up with Shop but didn't get an SMS alert
Shop only shares the shopper’s email, not their phone number. Signups made with Shop get email alerts.
Is the Continue with Shop button on by default?
No. It’s off until you click Turn on next to Show a Continue with Shop button and save.
What information does Shop share with STOQ?
Only the shopper’s verified email address. Shop doesn’t share their phone number or name.
Who sends the back in stock alert, Shop or STOQ?
STOQ. A signup made with Shop is treated like any other email signup, and the alert goes out through your normal email alert setup.
Do Shop signups still get the double opt-in email?
Yes. If Double opt-in is on, the shopper gets the confirmation email and must confirm it, like any other email signup.
Does it work with the on-page signup form?
No. The button shows in the “Notify me” popup only, not when the form is set to On page.
Does turning it on change existing signups?
No. It only adds another way to sign up. Existing signups and the regular email and phone fields stay as they are.
