Reward preorders and signups with Smile.io

Give customers Smile.io loyalty points for preorders and back in stock signups.

Last updated

Use this guide if you run a Smile.io loyalty program and want to reward customers who commit before a product is in stock. By the end, customers will earn the points you choose in Smile.io when they place a preorder, pay a preorder balance, sign up for a back in stock alert, or buy after an alert.

Requirement Detail
A paid STOQ plan The Connect Smile.io toggle is disabled on the free plan.
A Smile.io account You sign in to Smile.io to approve the connection.

STOQ tells Smile.io when a customer does one of the actions below. Each one appears in Smile.io as a way to earn, and you choose in Smile.io which ones earn points and how many. STOQ never decides the reward.

Action When it’s sent
Placed a preorder A customer places a preorder for a product in a preorder offer.
Paid a preorder balance The remaining balance of a partial payment preorder is charged, so customers earn on both the deposit and the balance.
Signed up for a back in stock alert A customer signs up through your ‘Notify me’ button. Each customer earns this at most once a day, so signing up for many products doesn’t add up.
Bought after a back in stock alert A customer buys a product after getting a back in stock alert for it.

Customers see their points in your Smile.io rewards panel, the same as any other way to earn.

On a phone, this menu is collapsed. In the Shopify mobile app, tap the STOQ logo at the top of the screen to open it, then choose the section named below. There is no hamburger icon. See Finding the STOQ menu.

  1. Open the Smile.io card

    1. In the left menu bar of the STOQ app, click Back in stock alerts.
    2. Click the Settings tab, then open the Integrations sub-tab.
    3. Click See integrations to open the full Integrations page.
    4. In the Marketing section, find the Smile.io card and click Set up.
  2. Turn on Connect Smile.io

Turn on Connect Smile.io. Smile.io opens in a new browser tab.

  3. Approve the connection in Smile.io

Sign in to Smile.io and approve STOQ. Back in STOQ, the card shows Your Smile.io account is connected.

  4. Set the points in Smile.io

Click Open Smile.io. In your Smile.io admin, add the STOQ actions you want to reward as ways to earn, and set how many points each one gives.

  1. Sign up for a back in stock alert on your store with an email that has a Smile.io account. See Test back in stock alerts.
  2. In Smile.io, open that customer and confirm the points from Signed up for a back in stock alert show up.
The Connect Smile.io toggle is greyed out

It’s a paid-plan feature. Upgrade your STOQ plan to turn it on.

A customer didn't get points for a signup

Check these:

  1. You added Signed up for a back in stock alert as a way to earn in Smile.io.
  2. The customer signed up with an email address. A signup with only a phone number isn’t sent to Smile.io.
  3. The customer hasn’t already earned it today. Each customer earns the signup action at most once a day.
STOQ shows Couldn't connect to Smile.io

Turn Connect Smile.io on again, and finish signing in and approving STOQ on the Smile.io tab before you close it.

Does STOQ decide how many points customers get?

No. STOQ only tells Smile.io what the customer did. You set the points for each action in Smile.io.

Why is the preorder balance its own action?

A partial payment order’s total in Shopify is only the deposit, so a spend-based rule would underpay the customer. Rewarding Paid a preorder balance lets customers earn on the rest when it’s charged.

Do existing preorders and signups earn points?

No. Only actions that happen after you connect Smile.io are sent.

How do I stop sending actions to Smile.io?

Turn off Connect Smile.io on the Smile.io card. Points customers already earned stay in Smile.io.
