How to refresh product data in STOQ reports
STOQ stores product names, images, and other metadata locally to display in your reports. If you rename a product, update images, or notice outdated information in your reports, you can refresh this stored data to sync the latest details from Shopify.
Navigate to the Refresh Option
The Refresh product data button is located on the Report Settings page. Here is how to get there.
- From your Shopify admin, open the STOQ app.
- Click Reports in the left sidebar.
- Click the More button in the top-right corner.
- Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
- Scroll to find "Advanced" section and click on "Show"
You will see a description that reads: "Sync product names, images, and other metadata from Shopify for all products in your reports." Below it is the Refresh product data button.

Refresh Product Data
Click the button to start a background sync of all product information in your reports.
- On the Report Settings page, scroll to the Other heading.
- Click the Refresh product data button.
- A confirmation message appears: "Product data refresh started. This may take a few minutes."
The refresh runs in the background. You can continue using STOQ while it processes. Once complete, your reports will show the updated product names, images, and metadata.

What Gets Refreshed
When you click Refresh product data, STOQ syncs the following information from Shopify for all products and variants in your reports:
- Product names — Updated titles for products and variants.
- Product images — Updated product photos and thumbnails.
- Other metadata — Any additional product details stored by STOQ, such as variant options and status.
STOQ processes variants in batches. Variants that were already refreshed within the last 24 hours are skipped to avoid unnecessary API calls. Deleted products are also skipped automatically.
When to Use This Feature
You should refresh stored data when you notice outdated information in your reports. Common scenarios include:
- You renamed a product or variant in Shopify, but the old name still appears in STOQ reports.
- You updated product images in Shopify, but the old images still show in STOQ.
- You recently imported or migrated products, and STOQ reports show placeholder or missing data.
- Product details appear incorrect or out of date after a bulk edit in Shopify.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
Button shows a loading spinner but nothing happens | The refresh runs in the background and may take a few minutes depending on how many products you have. Wait a few minutes and check your reports again. |
Product data still looks outdated after refresh | The refresh skips variants that were already synced within the last 24 hours. If the data was recently refreshed, wait 24 hours and try again. |
Refresh seems stuck or takes too long | Only one refresh can run at a time. If another refresh is already in progress, the new request is skipped. Wait 15 minutes and try again. |
Deleted products still appear in reports | The refresh does not remove deleted products from reports. To hide deleted products, enable the "Hide deleted products & variants from Reports" checkbox on the same Settings page. |
FAQs
Q: Does refreshing product data affect my waitlist signups or notification history?
A: No. Refreshing product data only updates product names, images, and metadata. Your waitlist signups, notification history, and all other report data remain unchanged.
Q: How long does the refresh take?
A: The refresh time depends on how many products and variants are in your reports. STOQ processes them in batches, so stores with a large catalog may take several minutes. You will see a confirmation message when the refresh starts, and you can continue using the app while it runs.
Q: Can I refresh data for a specific product only?
A: No. The Refresh product data button in Settings syncs data for all products in your reports. There is no option to refresh a single product from this page.
Q: Does STOQ automatically keep product data up to date?
A: Yes. STOQ updates product metadata during normal operations such as when notifications are sent or when customers sign up for waitlists. The manual refresh is a convenience feature for when you notice specific discrepancies, such as after a bulk product rename in Shopify.
Q: Will this use my Shopify API rate limit?
A: The refresh does make API calls to Shopify to fetch the latest product data. However, STOQ processes variants in batches and skips variants that were refreshed within the last 24 hours to minimize API usage. Under normal circumstances, this should not cause any rate-limit issues.
