How to remove preorder products from your offer

When a product no longer needs to be sold as a preorder, you can remove products from a preorder offer directly in STOQ. This guide explains how to remove individual variants, remove multiple variants in bulk, and what to expect when offers use a collection or all-products source.


Before You Begin


Make sure the following are in place before removing products.


  • STOQ is installed on your Shopify store with the app embed enabled.
  • The offer uses a Custom product source. You can only manually remove products from offers where the product source is set to "Custom." Offers linked to a specific collection or all products are managed automatically (see When You Cannot Remove Products Manually below).


How to Remove a Single Product


Each product or variant in the offer's product list has a bin (delete) icon you can use to remove it.


  1. In your Shopify admin, open the STOQ app.
  2. Go to Preorders > Offers tab.
  3. Click on the offer that contains the product you want to remove.
  4. In the Products tab, find the product or variant in the list.
  5. Click the bin icon (delete) next to the variant row.


If your offer uses STOQ as the inventory provider and the variant has "Continue selling when out of stock" enabled, a confirmation modal appears with two options:


  • Turn off "Continue selling when out of stock" — Disables the setting on the removed variant so it stops accepting orders when inventory reaches zero.
  • Leave "Continue selling" as is — Keeps the current inventory setting unchanged.


Choose your preference and click Remove to confirm.


If your offer does not use STOQ as the inventory provider, the variant is removed immediately without a confirmation step.


How to Remove Multiple Products at Once


You can remove several variants in one action using the bulk remove feature.


  1. In the Products tab of your offer, use the checkboxes to select the variants you want to remove.
  2. A bulk actions bar appears at the top of the product list.
  3. Click Remove variants.


If your offer uses STOQ as the inventory provider, a confirmation modal appears asking whether you want to turn off "Continue selling when out of stock" for the selected variants. The modal offers the same two options:


  • Turn off "Continue selling when out of stock" for selected variants
  • Leave "Continue selling" as is


Choose your preference and click Remove to confirm. All selected variants are removed from the offer.


When You Cannot Remove Products Manually


The bin icon and the bulk Remove variants action are only available when the offer's product source is set to Custom. If the product source is set to a specific collection or All products, you cannot manually add or remove individual products.


With these automatic sources, STOQ manages the product list for you:


  • Collection source — Products are synced from the linked Shopify collection. To remove a product, remove it from the collection in your Shopify admin instead.
  • All products source — STOQ monitors all products in your store. Products are added or removed from the offer automatically based on their inventory status.


To switch from an automatic source to manual product management, change the product source to "Custom" in the offer's Products tab. Note that changing the source removes all currently linked products from the offer.


What Happens After Removing Products


When you remove products from a preorder offer, the following changes take effect:


  • The preorder button is removed from the product page on your storefront. Customers will see the standard "Add to cart" or "Sold out" button instead.
  • Existing preorder orders are not affected. Orders placed before the product was removed will still appear in your order list and can be fulfilled normally.
  • Inventory policy may be updated. If you chose to turn off "Continue selling when out of stock" during removal, the variant will stop accepting orders once inventory reaches zero.


FAQs


Q: Can I undo removing a product from an offer?

A: There is no undo action. To add the product back, use the Add products button in the Products tab and select the product again using the product picker, collection picker, admin bulk actions, or CSV import.


Q: What happens to preorder orders when I remove a product

A: Existing preorder orders are not affected. They remain in your order list and can be fulfilled as normal. Only future preorder purchases are prevented once the product is removed from the offer.


Q: Why is the bin icon grayed out?

A: The bin icon is disabled when the offer's product source is set to "Collection" or "All products" instead of "Custom." It is also disabled while products are being added or while inventory data is loading. Wait for any in-progress operations to finish before trying again.


Q: Does removing a product from an offer delete it from my Shopify store?

A: No. Removing a product from a preorder offer only unlinks it from that offer in STOQ. The product remains in your Shopify catalog and is not deleted or modified in any way (other than the optional inventory policy change described above).
