How to add products to your preorder offer

Before customers can preorder your products, you need to add those products to a preorder offer. STOQ gives you several ways to add products to a preorder offer — from picking individual items to importing hundreds at once with a CSV file. This guide covers every method available and explains what to expect along the way.


Before You Begin


Make sure the following are in place before adding products.


  • STOQ is installed on your Shopify store with the app embed enabled.
  • At least one preorder offer has been created. If you have not created an offer yet, do that first under Preorders > Offers.
  • Products exist in your Shopify catalog. The products you want to sell as preorders must already be created in your Shopify admin.


How to Add Products Using the Product Picker


The product picker is the quickest way to add individual products or variants to your offer.


  1. In your Shopify admin, open the STOQ app.
  2. Go to Preorders > Offers tab.
  3. Click on the offer you want to add products to.
  4. In the Products tab, click the Add products button.
  5. The Shopify product picker opens. Search or browse for the products you want to add.
  6. Select one or more products (or specific variants).
  7. Click Add to confirm your selection.


STOQ runs a pre-flight check on the selected products to verify compatibility. If everything looks good, the products are added to your offer automatically. A progress banner appears while products are being processed.





More Ways to Add Products


Next to the Add products button, you will see a More options dropdown. This gives you three additional methods for adding products to your offer.


Add from Collection


Use this method to add products from an existing Shopify collection.


  1. Click More options > Add from collection.
  2. The Shopify collection picker opens. Select the collection you want to add from.
  3. A modal appears showing all products in the collection, including variant details like title and SKU.
  4. Select individual products or click Add all products to add every product in the collection at once.
  5. Click Add to confirm.


This is useful when you have already organized products into a collection and want to add them all to a preorder offer in one step.





Add from Admin


Use this method to add products directly from your Shopify admin's Products page, where you have access to Shopify's built-in filters.


  1. Click More options > Add from admin.
  2. A modal appears with step-by-step instructions:
  • Step 1: In your Shopify admin, go to the Products page. Use Search and filter to filter products by vendor, status, tag, or any other criteria.
  • Step 2: Select the products you want from the filtered results.
  • Step 3: Click More actions and select Add to preorder offer. Then choose this offer by name, or create a new one.


This approach is ideal when you need to filter products by attributes that are not available in the STOQ product picker — such as vendor, product type, or tags.



Import with CSV


Use this method to add (or remove) many products at once using a spreadsheet.


  1. Click More options > Import with CSV.
  2. The import section opens with instructions:
  • Download or make a copy of the STOQ Preorder Import Template.
  • Follow the template instructions to list the products you want to add or remove.
  • Export the sheet as a CSV file.
  1. Upload the CSV file using the upload form.
  2. Review and adjust the column mapping from your CSV to the template fields.
  3. Start the import.


A progress tracker shows the status of your import. Recent imports are listed below the upload form so you can check whether they completed successfully. You can also view completed imports from the last 30 days.


Tip: CSV import is the fastest method when adding a large number of products. It also supports removing products from the offer — not just adding them.




What Happens When You Add a Bundle Product


Shopify bundle products (products that require components) cannot be added to preorder offers. If you try to add a bundle product, STOQ detects it during the pre-flight check and shows a popup listing the bundle products that were excluded.


  • Non-bundle products from the same selection are still added normally.
  • Bundle products are listed in the popup with a message explaining they cannot be added to preorder offers.
  • You can close the popup and continue. The non-bundle products will proceed as expected.


This applies regardless of the method you use — product picker, collection, or CSV.



Pre-Flight Check


Every time you add products, STOQ runs a pre-flight compatibility check before processing them. This check verifies:


  • Whether any selected products are bundle products (which are excluded automatically).
  • Whether the "Continue selling when out of stock" inventory policy is configured correctly for your offer's inventory provider.


If issues are found, a modal appears explaining what was detected and giving you the option to fix issues and proceed, or skip the problematic products. If no issues are found, products are added immediately.


Removing Products from an Offer


To remove products you have already added:


  1. In the Products tab of your offer, find the product or variant you want to remove.
  2. Click the delete icon next to the variant row, or select multiple variants using the checkboxes and use the bulk Remove action.
  3. A confirmation modal appears asking whether you also want to turn off "Continue selling when out of stock" for the removed variants. Choose your preference and confirm.



FAQs


Q: What happens to products that are already in another offer?

A: When you move products to a new offer using Add to offer from Preorders > Products, STOQ automatically removes them from their previous offer. Each product is linked to exactly one offer at a time, so there is no confusion about which rules apply. If a product is linked to an offer with markets enabled, it will not be automatically removed from that offer when moved, since market-based offers are managed separately.


Q: What happens if I add a product that is already in the offer?

A: STOQ skips products that are already part of the offer. Only new products and variants are added. You will not see duplicates.


Q: Can I add products to an offer that is not yet active?

A: Yes. You can add products to an offer regardless of its status — active, scheduled, or disabled. The preorder button only appears on your storefront when the offer is active.


Q: Why is the "Add products" button disabled?

A: The button is disabled if the offer's product source is set to "All products" or "Collection" instead of "Custom." When using an automatic source, products are managed by the source rather than added manually. Switch the product source to "Custom" to enable manual product management.


Q: How long does it take to add products?

A: Adding a few products takes only a few seconds. Larger batches (from collections or CSV imports) may take longer. A progress banner shows while products are being processed. You can continue working in STOQ while products are added in the background.


Q: Why were some products excluded when I added from a collection?

A: Bundle products are automatically excluded from preorder offers. If a collection contains bundle products, they are listed in a popup and skipped. All non-bundle products from the collection are added normally.
