How to send back in stock notifications to multiple variants
STOQ lets you send back in stock notifications to multiple variants at once instead of opening each variant individually. Select the variants you want from the Demand report, click Send notifications, and every customer on those waitlists receives an alert. This saves time when you restock several products at the same time.
Understanding bulk notifications
When you send back in stock notifications in bulk, STOQ queues a notification batch for each selected variant. Every customer on that variant's waitlist receives the same back in stock alert they would get if you sent notifications one variant at a time. The only difference is that you trigger multiple variants in a single action.
Each variant is processed independently. If one variant has an issue (for example, no pending signups), the other variants still send normally.
How to send notifications to multiple variants
Follow these steps to send back in stock notifications in bulk from the Demand report.
Step 1 - Open the Demand report
- In the STOQ dashboard, go to Reports from the left sidebar.
- Click the Demand tab.

Step 2 - Switch to Group by variant
- Look for the Group by dropdown on the right side of the report.
- Select Group by variant.
The table now shows individual variants with their waitlist counts, restock alert status, and other details.

Step 3 - Select the variants
- Click the checkbox next to each variant you want to notify.
- You can select up to 10 variants at a time.
- A toolbar appears at the top of the table showing how many variants are selected and a Send notifications button.

Step 4 - Click Send notifications
- Click the Send notifications button in the toolbar.
- A confirmation dialog appears:
- Title: Send notifications for X variants
- Message: "You're about to send back in stock notifications to everyone in the waitlist for X variants. Are you sure? This cannot be undone."
- Wait for the Send notifications confirm button to become active (there is a short delay to prevent accidental clicks).
- Click Send notifications to confirm.

Step 5 - Check the result
After you confirm, STOQ shows one of two outcomes:
- Success banner — A green banner appears: "{count} notification batches have been queued and will be sent shortly." The selected variants are deselected and the report refreshes.
- Error banner — A red banner appears listing the specific variants or reasons that failed. Other variants in the batch may still have sent successfully.

Verification
To confirm that bulk notifications were sent:
- After the success banner appears, open one of the variants you just notified. Click the variant name in the Demand report.
- Check that the Waitlist count has decreased (or reached zero).
- Go to Reports > Notifications to see the recent notification activity for those variants.
- Check your email provider (Shopify, Klaviyo, or Omnisend) for the outgoing notification emails.
Known limitations
- Bulk send is only available in the Group by variant view — not Group by product.
- You can select a maximum of 10 variants per bulk send action.
- Bulk send cannot be undone once confirmed.
- If a variant has no pending signups, it is silently skipped — no individual error is shown for that variant.
- Notifications are queued, not sent instantly. Delivery depends on your email provider's processing speed.
- You cannot filter which customers on a variant's waitlist receive the notification — all waitlisted customers are notified.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
No checkboxes appear in the Demand report | You are in Group by product view | Switch to Group by variant using the Group by dropdown |
"Please select no more than 10 variants" toast message | You selected more than 10 variants | Deselect some variants so you have 10 or fewer, then try again |
"No pending notifications found for selected variants" error | The selected variants have no customers on their waitlists | Check the Waitlist column — only variants with pending signups can receive notifications |
"Failed to send notifications" error | A network or server error occurred | Refresh the page and try again. If the issue persists, contact STOQ support |
Error banner shows specific variant errors | One or more variants could not be processed | Read the error messages in the banner. Fix the issue for those variants and retry them separately |
Success banner appears but customers did not receive emails | Notifications are queued and sent in batches | Wait a few minutes. Check your email provider's sending logs. Verify your notification template is active |
FAQs
Q: Can I bulk send notifications from the Group by product view?
A: No. Bulk send notifications is only available in the Group by variant view. Switch to Group by variant using the Group by dropdown on the right side of the Demand report.
Q: How many variants can I select at once?
A: You can select up to 10 variants at a time. If you need to send notifications for more than 10 variants, send them in batches of 10.
Q: What happens if one of the selected variants has no waitlisted customers?
A: That variant is skipped. The other variants in your selection still send normally. If all selected variants have empty waitlists, you see an error message: "No pending notifications found for selected variants."
Q: Can I undo a bulk send after confirming?
A: No. Once you confirm the bulk send, notifications are queued immediately. This is why the confirmation dialog includes a short delay before the confirm button becomes active — to prevent accidental sends.
Q: Do bulk-sent notifications use the same template as regular notifications?
A: Yes. Bulk send uses the exact same notification template and email provider (Shopify, Klaviyo, or Omnisend) as sending notifications for a single variant. Customers receive the same alert regardless of whether it was triggered individually or in bulk.
Q: Will bulk send work if restock alerts are disabled for a variant?
A: STOQ checks each variant independently. If a variant has pending waitlist signups, the bulk send attempts to queue notifications for it. Make sure restock alerts are enabled for the variants you want to notify.
Q: How long does it take for bulk notifications to be delivered?
A: Notifications are queued immediately and typically delivered within a few minutes. Delivery time depends on your email provider and the number of customers on each variant's waitlist.
Q: Does the Waitlist column update right away after bulk send?
A: The Demand report refreshes automatically after a successful bulk send. The Waitlist count updates to reflect the new pending count for each variant.
