How to Collect Subscribers for Newsletters
STOQ lets you grow your mailing list by collecting marketing consent from customers when they sign up for back-in-stock alerts. When a customer registers for a restock notification, they can also opt in to receive your marketing emails and text messages. This is a simple way to collect subscribers for newsletters without adding extra forms to your store.
How It Works
When marketing consent is enabled, customers see a consent checkbox on the back-in-stock signup form. If they check it (or if you enroll them by default), their consent is recorded along with their signup. You can then sync this data to Shopify or Klaviyo through STOQ's integrations to automatically add consenting customers to your mailing list.
How to Enable Marketing Consent
Follow these steps to start collecting newsletter subscribers through your back-in-stock signup form.
- Go to Back in Stock in the STOQ menu.
- Click Customize.
- Click Mailing list.
- Under Get marketing consent, click Turn on to enable the feature.
- Click Save changes on top right.
Once enabled, the consent option will appear on your back-in-stock signup form.

How to Customize the Consent Label
You can change the text that customers see next to the consent checkbox. This lets you match the message to your brand voice or explain what kind of emails they will receive.
- Go to Back in Stock > Customize > Mailing list.
- In the Consent label field, enter your custom message.
- Click Save changes on top right.
The default message is: "Notify me about other news, sales, discounts & offers too"
This field supports HTML, so you can add links or basic formatting if needed. For example, you could link to your privacy policy or terms page.

How to Enroll Customers by Default
You can choose whether the consent checkbox is pre-checked or unchecked when customers see the signup form.
- Go to Back in Stock > Customize > Mailing list.
- Check Enroll customers by default to pre-check the consent checkbox on the form.
- Click Save changes on top right.

When this option is checked, the consent checkbox will be pre-selected on the signup form. Customers can still uncheck it if they do not want to receive marketing messages.
When this option is unchecked, customers must explicitly check the box to give their consent. This is the recommended approach for stores that need to comply with strict consent regulations like GDPR.
How to Sync Subscribers to Your Mailing List
After collecting marketing consent, you need to sync the data to your email platform to add subscribers to your mailing list. STOQ supports syncing through Shopify and Klaviyo integrations.
- Go to Integrations in the STOQ menu.
- Turn on the Shopify or Klaviyo integration.
- Once connected, STOQ will automatically sync visitor data and add consenting customers to your mailing list.
For Klaviyo, consenting customers are added to your Klaviyo lists with their marketing consent status. For Shopify, the consent is recorded in the customer's marketing preferences in Shopify admin.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
Consent checkbox is not showing on the signup form | Make sure Get marketing consent is turned on in the Mailing list settings. Go to Back in Stock > Customize > Mailing list and check that the toggle shows On. Also make sure you clicked Save after enabling it. This feature requires a paid STOQ plan. |
Customers are not being added to my mailing list | Marketing consent is collected by STOQ, but you need an active integration to sync the data to your email platform. Go to Integrations and make sure Shopify or Klaviyo is connected and enabled. |
I want to change the default checkbox state | Go to Back in Stock > Customize > Mailing list and toggle the Enroll customers by default checkbox. When checked, the consent box is pre-selected for customers. When unchecked, customers must opt in manually. |
