Delete a Preorder offer

If you have too many preorder offers or created one by mistake, you can delete it from STOQ. When deleting an offer, you have the option to automatically disable the "Continue selling when out of stock" setting for the products in that offer, or handle it manually later. This guide walks you through the steps to safely delete a preorder offer.

Before You Delete

Before deleting a preorder offer, consider the following:

  • Customers will no longer be able to preorder the products that were linked to this offer.
  • The "Preorder" button will no longer appear on product pages for these products.
  • Existing preorders that were already placed will remain in your Shopify orders and can still be fulfilled.
  • The offer will be permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

Consider Disabling Instead

If you're unsure about permanently deleting an offer, consider disabling it instead. Disabling an offer:

  • Temporarily stops the preorder functionality without removing the offer.
  • Allows you to re-enable the offer later if needed.
  • Preserves all your offer settings and product associations.

Deleting a Preorder Offer

To delete a preorder offer, follow these steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, open the STOQ app.
  2. Click Preorders in the left navigation menu.
  3. Under Offers, locate the offer you want to delete.
  4. Click on the name of the offer

Accessing the Delete Option

  1. In the offer editor, look for the More button located at the top right corner of the page.
  2. Click More to open the dropdown menu.
  3. Select Delete offer from the dropdown options.

Understanding the Confirmation Dialog

When you select Delete offer, a confirmation dialog appears. This dialog warns you about the implications for the "Continue selling when out of stock" setting on the products in this offer.

The dialog explains that if you delete this offer, customers will no longer be able to preorder the linked products. It also asks whether you want to disable the "Continue selling when out of stock" setting for these products.

Choosing Your Option

You have two options for handling the "Continue selling when out of stock" setting:

Option 1: Yes, disable Continue Selling

Select this option if you want STOQ to automatically disable the "Continue selling when out of stock" setting for all products in this offer. This means:

  • Products will show "Sold out" when inventory reaches zero.
  • Customers cannot purchase these products when out of stock.
  • This is the recommended option if you no longer want to sell these products when out of stock.

Option 2: No, I'll handle it myself

Select this option if you prefer to manage the "Continue selling when out of stock" setting manually in Shopify admin. This means:

  • The setting remains enabled for products in this offer.
  • Products will show "Add to Cart" even when out of stock (since Continue Selling is still enabled).
  • You will need to manually disable the setting in Shopify admin for each product if desired.

Warning: If you choose "No" and leave "Continue selling when out of stock" enabled, customers will still be able to purchase out-of-stock products, but they will see a regular "Add to Cart" button instead of "Preorder".

Confirming the Deletion

  1. Select your preferred option for handling the Continue Selling setting.
  2. Click the Delete offer button to confirm and remove the offer.

  1. Once deleted, you will see a confirmation message and be redirected to the Preorders page.

Managing Continue Selling After Deletion

If you chose to handle the "Continue selling when out of stock" setting manually, here's how to disable it in Shopify.

Disabling Continue Selling in Shopify Admin

  1. Go to your Shopify admin.
  2. Navigate to Products.
  3. Select the product you want to update.
  4. Scroll down to the Inventory section.
  5. Uncheck Continue selling when out of stock.
  6. Click Save.

Repeat this process for each product that was in the deleted offer.

Tip: You can also use Shopify's bulk editor to update multiple products at once.

Alternative: Disabling an Offer

If you want to temporarily stop preorders without deleting the offer, you can disable it instead.

How to Disable an Offer

  1. Go to Preorders, offers and select the offer that you want to disable .
  2. Toggle the Enabled switch to off.
  3. Click Save.

The offer will be disabled and customers will no longer see the preorder option, but you can re-enable it at any time.

Known Limitations

The delete offer feature has some constraints to be aware of.

  • Deleting an offer is permanent and cannot be undone. Once deleted, you would need to create a new offer from scratch.
  • Existing preorders placed before deletion are not affected. They remain in your Shopify orders and can be fulfilled normally.
  • If you have multiple offers with overlapping products, deleting one offer does not affect the other offers.
  • The automatic Continue Selling disable option only affects products that were in the deleted offer at the time of deletion.

FAQs

Q: Can I recover a deleted preorder offer?

A: No, deleting a preorder offer is permanent. Once deleted, the offer cannot be recovered. If you need the same offer again, you would need to create a new one from scratch. Consider disabling the offer instead if you might need it again in the future.

Q: What happens to existing preorders when I delete an offer?

A: Existing preorders that were placed before you deleted the offer are not affected. They remain in your Shopify orders and can be fulfilled normally. Only new preorders are prevented after the offer is deleted.

Q: Should I choose Yes or No for the Continue Selling option?

A: Choose "Yes" if you want STOQ to automatically disable Continue Selling for the products, which will show them as "Sold out" when out of stock. Choose "No" if you want to manage this setting yourself in Shopify admin, or if you plan to add these products to a different preorder offer.

Q: Can I delete multiple offers at once?

A: No, you can only delete one offer at a time. You need to open each offer individually and delete it through the More menu.

Q: Will deleting an offer affect my other preorder offers?

A: No, deleting one offer does not affect your other preorder offers. Each offer is independent. If a product is in multiple offers, it will still be available for preorder through the other offers.

Q: What's the difference between disabling and deleting an offer?

A: Disabling an offer temporarily stops preorders but keeps all your settings and product associations intact. You can re-enable it at any time. Deleting an offer permanently removes it and all its settings. Use disable if you might need the offer again; use delete if you're sure you no longer need it.
