# How STOQ works with Shopify B2B

> What B2B buyers (company locations and catalogs) see from STOQ: preorders, the Notify me button, and stock per location.

Use this guide if you sell wholesale through Shopify B2B and want to know how STOQ behaves for company buyers. By the end, you'll know what a company buyer sees, which settings control it, and what to check on a B2B test order.

## Before you begin

| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Shopify B2B | B2B is a Shopify Plus feature. Set up companies, locations and catalogs first. See [Set up B2B in Shopify admin](https://help.stoqapp.com/preorders/set-up-b2b-in-shopify-admin/). |
| A preorder offer | The B2B setting lives on each offer. See [Set up preorders](https://help.stoqapp.com/preorders/set-up-preorders/). |
| The STOQ app embed | The storefront blocks must be on in your theme. |

## How STOQ recognizes a B2B buyer

STOQ treats a visitor as a B2B buyer when Shopify marks the logged-in customer as B2B, or when the customer is buying for a company location. STOQ relies on Shopify for this and doesn't keep its own list of companies.

## Company locations and catalogs

A company location can have its own catalog, prices and availability. STOQ doesn't re-create that on its own. For a B2B buyer it uses the product and availability data Shopify already prints in your theme for that location, instead of making its own live country-level check. A product that only a company catalog publishes still works for that buyer.

## Preorders for B2B buyers

Each offer has an **Allow B2B customers to place preorders** setting under **POS, B2B & Bundles**. It's on by default.

- **On**: B2B buyers see the preorder button for the offer's products.
- **Off**: the add to cart button is disabled for B2B buyers on that offer's preorder products. Retail customers are unaffected.

B2B preorders are always charged in full at checkout. Shopify's B2B checkout doesn't accept a selling plan, so partial payments (deposits) aren't available. STOQ records the preorder on the order line instead, as hidden line item properties (they start with an underscore, so customers don't see them). One of them marks the order as coming from B2B. The customer sees a "Purchase type: Preorder" property on the line unless you've set your own.

## The Notify me button for B2B buyers

The Notify me (back in stock) button isn't switched on or off per B2B setting. It follows the same rules as for any customer. A B2B buyer signs up for a variant and gets the alert when it's restocked, using the same email or SMS settings as everyone else.

## Stock per location

STOQ's back in stock alerts can be limited to chosen Shopify locations or to the locations linked to a market. This is one shop-wide setting and applies to every buyer, B2B or not. See [Filter alerts by location or market](https://help.stoqapp.com/back-in-stock/back-in-stock-locations-and-markets/). STOQ doesn't have a separate stock rule for a company location. If you want wholesale stock to trigger alerts only when a warehouse is restocked, choose that warehouse in the location filter.

## Check your setup

1. Log in to your storefront as a customer of a B2B company, with a location selected.
2. Open a product that's in a preorder offer. Confirm the preorder button works when **Allow B2B customers to place preorders** is on, and is disabled when it's off.
3. Add the item to the cart and place a test order. Confirm it's charged in full.

## Troubleshooting

### A B2B customer can't see the preorder button

1. Check that **Allow B2B customers to place preorders** is on for the offer.
2. Confirm the customer is logged in and has a company location selected. If Shopify doesn't treat them as B2B, they see the retail storefront.
3. Confirm the product is published to the company's catalog in Shopify.

### A B2B order isn't recognized as a preorder

A B2B cart takes no selling plan, so STOQ relies on the line item properties. If a custom cart or checkout flow drops those properties, the order is treated as a normal order. Test with your theme's standard add to cart.

## Limitations

- No deposits or partial payments for B2B buyers.
- Flows that depend on a Shopify selling plan webhook may not fire for B2B orders.
