How to track sales recovered through STOQ
Every back-in-stock alert and preorder notification you send through STOQ can lead to a sale. STOQ automatically tracks those sales so you can see exactly how much revenue your notifications recover. This guide shows you how to track sales recovered through STOQ using the Homepage analytics, the Overview tab, the Revenue view, and the Orders tab inside Reports.
Before You Begin
Make sure the following are in place before you start tracking recovered sales:
- You have an active STOQ subscription on a paid plan (CSV export requires a paid plan).
- Back-in-stock alerts or preorders are enabled and notifications have been sent.
- Customers have placed orders after receiving notifications from STOQ.
- You are logged in to your Shopify admin and have opened the STOQ app.

How to View Orders for a Specific Product or Variant
You can drill down into orders for a specific product or variant to see exactly which orders were attributed to notifications for that item.
- In the STOQ app, go to Reports > Products.
- Navigate to a specific product or variant.
- Open the Orders section for that product or variant.
- The table shows the same columns as the main Order Attributions view, filtered to only that product or variant.
- Use the Date range, Order matching, Search, and Per page filters to narrow results.
- Click Export CSV to export orders for that specific product or variant.
Advanced Tips
- Compare channels — View the Homepage Sales chart to compare back-in-stock revenue vs. preorder revenue side by side and identify which channel drives more recovered sales.
- Track average order value — Use the Back-in-Stock Overview summary to monitor your average order value over time. A rising average means customers are spending more per order.
- Use exact variant matching — When you want to measure the direct impact of a specific notification, use the Exact variant match only filter in Order Attributions. This shows only orders where the customer purchased the exact variant they were notified about.
- Monitor top products — The Revenue view sorted by revenue (descending) shows your highest-earning products at the top. Use this to decide which products to prioritize for restocking.
- Schedule regular reviews — Check your sales recovered data weekly or monthly using the date range filter to track trends and measure the ROI of your notification campaigns.
Known Limitations
- STOQ attributes orders based on customers who received notifications. If a customer makes a purchase independently (not triggered by a notification), the order may still appear in attributions if the customer was previously notified.
- The Engagement view in the Products view switcher is marked as Coming soon and requires a conversion analytics pixel to be active.
- CSV exports are sent to your configured report email address. You cannot download them directly from the app.
- CSV export requires a paid STOQ plan.
- Revenue data may take a short time to appear after an order is placed as STOQ processes the attribution.
- The Back-in-Stock Overview is currently in Beta.
Troubleshooting
Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
No revenue data appears in the Revenue view | No orders have been attributed yet | Ensure notifications have been sent and customers have placed orders. Click Refresh on the empty state. |
Sales recovered shows $0 on the Homepage | Date range may be too narrow or no notifications sent | Expand the date range to All time and verify notifications were delivered. |
Revenue numbers don't match Shopify reports | STOQ tracks attributed orders only, not all store sales | STOQ only counts orders from customers who received a notification. This is a subset of total store sales. |
CSV export not received | Email may be in spam or export still processing | Check your spam folder. Exports may take a few minutes. Verify your report email address in STOQ settings. |
Order Attributions table is empty | No attributed orders in selected date range | Change the date range to All time or check that notifications have been sent and orders placed. |
Revenue differs between Overview and Revenue view | Different date ranges or grouping selected | Ensure both views use the same date range. The Overview defaults to last 30 days while the Revenue view defaults to All time. |
FAQs
Q: What does "sales recovered" mean in STOQ?
A: Sales recovered refers to the total revenue from orders placed by customers who received a back-in-stock alert or preorder notification through STOQ. When a customer receives a notification and later places an order, STOQ attributes that order as a "recovered sale."
Q: How does STOQ attribute an order to a notification?
A: STOQ tracks which customers received notifications (email or SMS). When those customers place an order in your store, STOQ matches the order to the notification and counts it as an attributed order. You can choose between "All attributed orders" (any order from a notified customer) or "Exact variant match only" (customer bought the specific variant they were notified about).
Q: Where can I see my total sales recovered?
A: The quickest place is the Homepage > Analytics section, which shows the Sales recovered stat combining both back-in-stock and preorder revenue. For a detailed breakdown, go to Back in Stock > Overview or Reports > Products > Revenue view.
Q: Can I filter sales data by date range?
A: Yes. Every sales tracking view in STOQ supports date range filtering. You can choose from preset ranges (Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 60 days, Last 90 days, Last 6 months, Last 12 months, All time) or set a custom date range using the calendar picker.
Q: Can I view revenue by product or by variant?
A: Yes. In the Revenue view under Reports > Products, use the Group by filter to switch between Variant (default) and Product grouping. This lets you see revenue at either the variant level or the product level.
Q: How do I export my sales data?
A: Click Export CSV at the bottom of the Revenue view or the Order Attributions table. STOQ will schedule the export and email the CSV file to your configured report email address. The export respects your current filters. A paid plan is required for CSV exports.
Q: What is the difference between the Revenue view and Order Attributions?
A: The Revenue view (Reports > Products > Revenue) shows aggregated revenue data per product or variant — including units sold, average order value, and total revenue. The Order Attributions tab (Reports > Orders) shows individual order-level details — including order name, customer info, notification type, and order date. Use Revenue view for a high-level summary and Order Attributions for order-by-order analysis.
Q: Why does the Revenue view show different numbers than my Shopify analytics?
A: STOQ only tracks orders attributed to its notifications. Shopify analytics shows all store sales. The STOQ Revenue view is a subset of your total Shopify revenue, reflecting only the sales that STOQ helped recover through back-in-stock alerts and preorder notifications.
