How to reschedule fulfilment for preorders

When your preorder timeline changes, such as a shipment delay, early stock arrival, or an update to your fulfillment schedule, STOQ allows you to reschedule fulfillment directly from the Orders tab. You can update fulfillment for a single order or multiple orders at once.

How Fulfillment Rescheduling Works

Fulfillment rescheduling updates the scheduled fulfillment date on a preorder in Shopify. STOQ sends the new date to Shopify through the Fulfillment Order API, and any scheduled fulfillments linked to that order are updated to the new date.

  • The new fulfillment date must be today or a future date. Setting a past date is not allowed.
  • STOQ updates all scheduled fulfillment orders within the order to the new date.
  • Rescheduling does not automatically fulfill the order on the new date. You still need to fulfill the order manually or through your existing workflow when the time comes.
  • You can reschedule fulfillment for a single order or select multiple orders and reschedule them all at once.

Tip: Rescheduling fulfillment is available on paid STOQ plans. If you see an upgrade prompt, you need to upgrade your plan first.

Reschedule Fulfillment for a Single Order

Use this method when you need to change the fulfillment date for one specific preorder.

Steps

  1. Open the STOQ app in your Shopify admin.
  2. Go to Reports > Preorders > Orders.

  1. Click on the order you want to reschedule.
  2. On the order detail page, click the "Fulfill order" option and select Reschedule fulfillment.

  1. In the Reschedule Fulfillment modal, select a new fulfillment date using the date picker.
  2. Click Reschedule Fulfillment to confirm.

You will see a success banner confirming the fulfillment has been rescheduled. STOQ updates the fulfillment date for any scheduled fulfillments in that order.

Note: The modal description confirms: "When you confirm, STOQ will update the date for any scheduled fulfillments in this order."

Reschedule Fulfillment in Bulk

Use bulk rescheduling when you need to update the fulfillment date for multiple preorders at once. For example, if a supplier delays a shipment, you can push all fulfillment dates forward in one go.

Steps

  1. Open the STOQ app and go to Preorders > Orders.
  2. Select the orders you want to reschedule by checking the boxes next to each order.
  • To select all scheduled orders that match your current filters, use the Search and Filter option. Open the filter (F), then choose Fulfillment status and select Scheduled.

  1. Click the More Actions (Three dot) at the top right side of the table.
  2. Under the Fulfillment group, select Reschedule fulfillment.

  1. In the Reschedule Fulfillment modal, select a new fulfillment date using the date picker.
  • The modal shows how many orders will be affected (e.g., "Reschedule fulfillment for 15 orders").

  1. Wait for the 3-second countdown to finish, then click Reschedule Fulfillment to confirm.

Bulk rescheduling runs in the background. You will see a banner that says "Processing in background." Click Refresh table to see updated results once the process completes.

Tip: There is a maximum limit on how many orders you can reschedule at once. If you exceed the limit, narrow your selection using filters before rescheduling.

What Happens After Rescheduling

After you reschedule fulfillment, several things happen behind the scenes:

  • Shopify fulfillment orders are updated — STOQ updates each scheduled fulfillment order through Shopify's Fulfillment Order API with the new date.
  • All fulfillment orders in the order are rescheduled — If an order has multiple fulfillment orders (e.g., split fulfillments), each one is rescheduled to the new date.
  • Partial failures are handled gracefully — If some fulfillment orders in a batch succeed and others fail, STOQ keeps the successful updates and reports the failures separately.
  • Fulfillment is not triggered automatically — Rescheduling only changes the scheduled date. The order is not fulfilled until you or your workflow processes it.

Use Cases for Rescheduling Fulfillment

Rescheduling preorder fulfillment is useful in situations like supplier delays, where you need to push dates forward, or early stock arrivals, where you can move fulfillment earlier. It also helps accommodate customer requests, align with updated campaign or launch timelines, and adjust schedules based on warehouse or 3PL capacity.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Solution

Reschedule fulfillment button is not available

Make sure the order is not cancelled or fully refunded. Only active orders with scheduled fulfillments can be rescheduled.

Bulk reschedule shows "Processing in background" but nothing changes

Background processing can take a few minutes for large batches. Click Refresh table to check for updates. If the issue persists, try a smaller batch.

"Operation exceeds maximum size limit" error

You selected too many orders at once. Use filters to narrow your selection and try again with a smaller set.

Some orders in a bulk reschedule failed

STOQ handles partial failures gracefully, meaning successful updates are saved. For any failed orders, review them individually and try rescheduling one at a time.

Upgrade prompt appears instead of the modal

Rescheduling fulfillment requires a paid STOQ plan. Upgrade your plan to access this feature.

FAQs

Q : Can I reschedule fulfillment to a past date?

A : No. You can only select today or a future date. Past dates are not allowed.

Q : Will rescheduling automatically fulfill the order on the new date?

A : No. Rescheduling only updates the fulfillment date. You still need to fulfill the order manually or through your workflow.

Q : What is the 3 second countdown in the bulk reschedule modal?

A : It is a safety feature to prevent accidental actions. You must wait 3 seconds before confirming, giving you time to review the changes.

Q : Does rescheduling fulfillment affect the payment due date?

A : No. Fulfillment and payment schedules are separate. Changing one does not affect the other.

Q : What happens if an order has multiple fulfillment orders?

A : STOQ updates all scheduled fulfillments to the new date. If some fail, the successful ones remain and you can retry the failed ones separately.
