Fix: "Notify Me" button shows on all variants or in-stock products
If the Notify Me button appears on product variants that are still in stock, the most common cause is the "Show Notify Me widget if any variant is out of stock" setting. When this setting is enabled, STOQ displays the Notify Me button on the entire product — including in-stock variants — as long as at least one variant of that product is out of stock.
This article explains why this happens and how to turn it off so the button only appears on out-of-stock variants.

Why the Button Appears on In-Stock Variants
By default, STOQ shows the Notify Me button only when a customer selects an out-of-stock variant on the product page. For example, if a t-shirt comes in sizes S, M, and L, and only size M is out of stock, the button appears when the customer selects size M, but not when they select S or L.
When "Show Notify Me widget if any variant is out of stock" is enabled, the behavior changes. If any single variant of a product is out of stock, the Notify Me button appears for all variants of that product — even the ones that are in stock. In the t-shirt example, the button would appear on sizes S, M, and L because size M is out of stock.
This setting is useful for stores that want to collect signups broadly — for example, if you want customers browsing in-stock sizes to know that other sizes are available for waitlist signup. However, it can be confusing if customers see a "Notify Me" button next to a variant they can already purchase.
Disable the Setting on the Product Page
To make the Notify Me button appear only on out-of-stock variants:
- In your STOQ dashboard, go to Back in stock alerts > Signup widget.
- Click Product controls in the sidebar.
- Uncheck "Show 'Notify me' widget if any variant is out of stock".
- Click Save.
The Notify Me button will now only appear when a customer selects a variant that is actually out of stock.

Disable the Setting on Collection Pages
There is a separate version of this setting for collection pages. If the Notify Me button appears on in-stock products in your collection or catalog pages:
- In your STOQ dashboard, go to Back in stock alerts > Signup widget.
- Click Collection page in the sidebar.
- Uncheck "Show 'Notify me' button if any variant is out of stock".
- Click Save.

When to Keep the Setting Enabled
There are situations where you might want to keep this setting on:
- You sell products where customers may want any variant — For example, if you sell limited edition sneakers and a customer viewing an in-stock size 10 might also want to sign up for a restock alert on size 8.
- You want maximum signup volume — Showing the button on all variants increases the number of customers who see the signup form, which can grow your waitlist faster.
- Your products have few variants — If most of your products have only one or two variants, the distinction between "any variant out of stock" and "selected variant out of stock" may not matter much.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
Button still shows on in-stock variants after disabling the setting | Make sure you clicked Save after unchecking the setting. Clear your browser cache and do a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R) on your storefront to see the change. |
Button disappeared from all variants including out-of-stock ones | Check that STOQ's app embed is still enabled in your theme. Go to Shopify admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize and verify the STOQ app embed is toggled on. |
Button shows on collection pages but not product pages (or vice versa) | The product page and collection page settings are separate. Check both locations in the Signup widget settings to ensure they match your desired behavior. |
Button shows on a specific product even though all variants are in stock | Check if per-product configuration is enabled and the product has Button visibility set to Always show in the Products tab. This overrides the global setting. |
Cannot find the setting in the sidebar | The setting is under Product controls (for product pages) or Collection page (for collection pages) in the Signup widget section of Back in stock alerts. |
FAQs
Q: What does "any variant is out of stock" actually check?
A: STOQ checks whether any variant of the product has zero inventory (or inventory tracking shows it as unavailable). If even one variant — regardless of size, color, or other options — is out of stock, the setting triggers the Notify Me button to appear on all variants of that product.
Q: Does disabling this setting affect existing signups?
A: No. Disabling this setting only changes when the Notify Me button appears on your storefront. Customers who already signed up for restock alerts will still receive notifications. Their signups are not affected.
Q: Can I control this on a per-product basis instead of globally?
A: Yes. You can use the per-product configuration in Back in stock alerts > Products to set Button visibility to Always show, When out of stock, or Never show for individual variants. This overrides the global setting for specific products.
Q: Does this setting affect the signup form or just the button?
A: It affects both. When the setting is enabled and the button appears on an in-stock variant, clicking the button opens the signup form as usual. The customer can sign up for a restock alert even though the variant they are viewing is currently in stock.
Q: Will the button still appear if I set a variant to "Never show" in per-product settings?
A: Per-product overrides take priority. If you set a variant to Never show in the Products tab, the button will not appear on that variant regardless of the global "any variant out of stock" setting.
