Enable 1-click resubscribe for future back in stock alerts
When a customer clicks a back in stock alert but the product has already sold out, they normally need to find the product again and fill out the signup form from scratch. STOQ's Quick resubscribe feature fixes this. It automatically checks if the product is still available when a customer clicks the purchase link. If the product is sold out, STOQ redirects the customer to the product page and opens the "Notify me" popup with their details already filled in. Resubscribing takes just one click.
Why Enable Quick Resubscribe
For high-demand products, stock can sell out within minutes of a back in stock alert going out. That means many notified customers will arrive at a sold-out page.
- Keep customers in the loop. Instead of losing them at a dead end, Quick resubscribe lets customers sign up for the next restock instantly.
- Higher resubscription rates. Pre-filling the customer's contact details removes friction. One tap is all it takes to stay on the alert list.
- Better customer experience. Customers see a clear banner explaining the product is out of stock and are guided directly to the signup form, rather than landing on an empty checkout page.
- More future conversions. Customers who resubscribe are already highly interested. They are more likely to convert when the product restocks again.
Prerequisites
Before enabling Quick resubscribe, make sure the following are in place.
- The STOQ app is installed and active on your Shopify store.
- Your store is on a paid STOQ plan (Lite, Standard, or Pro). Quick resubscribe is not available on the free plan.
- The "Notify me" button and signup popup are active on your storefront.
How to Enable Quick Resubscribe
Follow these steps to turn on 1-click resubscribe for your back in stock alerts.
- Open the STOQ app from your Shopify admin.
- Click Back in stock alerts in the left menu bar.
- Click the Signup widget tab.
- Click Customize Widget.
- Click on Signup Form.
- In the left panel, scroll down to the Form content section.
- Find the Quick resubscribe section.

How Quick Resubscribe Works
Here is what happens behind the scenes when a customer clicks the purchase link in a back in stock alert.
- The customer clicks the Buy now button in the back in stock email, SMS, or push notification.
- STOQ checks in real time whether the product variant is still available for sale on your Shopify store.
- If the product is in stock: The customer is taken directly to checkout or the product page as normal.
- If the product is sold out: STOQ redirects the customer to the product page with the "Notify me" signup popup automatically opened. The customer's email address (or phone number) is pre-filled in the form.
- The customer sees a banner message explaining the product is out of stock and can resubscribe with a single click on the Notify me when available button.
Note: Quick resubscribe works with all notification channels — email, SMS, and push notifications. The customer's contact details are pre-filled based on the channel they used to receive the alert.
Customize the Resubscribe Banner Text
When a customer is redirected to the product page after a sell-out, they see a banner message inside the signup popup. You can customize this text.
- Open the STOQ app from your Shopify admin.
- Click Back in stock alerts in the left menu bar.
- Click the Signup widget tab.
- Click Customize form.
- Scroll down to the Quick resubscribe section in the left panel.
- In the Banner text field, enter your preferred message.
- Click Save changes at the top of the page.
The default banner text is:
"This product is out of stock. Get notified when it's restocked again by entering your details below!"

Translate the Resubscribe Banner
If your store supports multiple languages, you can translate the resubscribe banner text for each language.
- In the STOQ app, go to Back in stock alerts > Delivery settings
- Click the Manage Language.
- Select the language you want to translate.
- Find the Resubscribe text field and enter your translation.
- Click Save changes.

Known Limitations
Keep these points in mind when using Quick resubscribe.
- Quick resubscribe requires a paid plan (Lite, Standard, or Pro). The checkbox is disabled on the free plan.
- The feature checks product availability in real time. There may be a brief delay (a few seconds) while STOQ verifies stock before redirecting.
- Quick resubscribe only activates when the product is sold out at the time the customer clicks the link. If the product is still in stock, the customer proceeds to checkout or the product page as normal.
- The feature works with the standard STOQ purchase links in email, SMS, and push notifications. It does not apply to custom links or third-party notification platforms.
- The resubscribe banner text is a single global text. It applies to all products equally. You cannot set different banner text per product.
- If the customer's contact details cannot be retrieved (e.g., the original signup record was deleted), the popup will open but the fields will not be pre-filled. The customer can still fill in their details manually.
Troubleshooting
Symptom | Likely Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
Quick resubscribe checkbox is disabled | Store is on the free plan | Upgrade to a paid STOQ plan (Lite, Standard, or Pro) |
Customer goes to checkout instead of resubscribe popup | Product was still in stock when they clicked the link | This is expected behavior. The resubscribe redirect only triggers when the product is sold out |
Resubscribe banner text not showing on storefront | Custom banner text field is empty | Enter text in the Banner text field or leave it blank to use the default message |
Customer details not pre-filled in the popup | Customer record may have been deleted, or the notification channel data is unavailable | The popup will still open. The customer can fill in their details manually |
Changes not appearing on storefront | Changes were not saved | Click Save changes at the top of the page after making edits |
Resubscribe popup not opening on product page | The "Notify me" widget may not be active on the product page | Make sure the signup widget is enabled and the "Notify me" button is visible on product pages |
FAQs
Q: What does the customer see when they click a back in stock alert for a sold-out product?
A: The customer is redirected to the product page on your store. The "Notify me" signup popup opens automatically with a banner explaining the product is out of stock. Their email address or phone number is pre-filled in the form. They just need to click the submit button to resubscribe for the next restock alert.
Q: Does Quick resubscribe work with SMS and push notifications?
A: Yes. Quick resubscribe works with all STOQ notification channels — email, SMS, and push notifications. The customer's contact details are pre-filled based on whichever channel delivered the alert.
Q: Can I customize the banner text that customers see?
A: Yes. Go to Back in stock alerts > Signup widget > Customize form, scroll to the Quick resubscribe section, and edit the Banner text field. You can also translate it into multiple languages through the Languages page.
Q: Does this feature require a paid plan?
A: Yes. Quick resubscribe is available on Lite, Standard, and Pro plans. It is not available on the free plan.
Q: What happens if the product comes back in stock while the customer is on the resubscribe page?
A: The popup will still show the resubscribe banner since the availability was checked at the time the customer clicked the link. If the customer resubscribes, they will receive a new alert the next time the product is restocked by STOQ's automatic alert system.
Q: Does Quick resubscribe work with preorder notifications?
A: No. Quick resubscribe only applies to back in stock alert notifications. It does not work with preorder notifications.
Q: Will the customer be signed up for the same product and variant?
A: Yes. The resubscribe popup is pre-filled with the customer's details and opened on the same product page. The customer is signing up for the exact same product (and variant, if applicable) they originally registered for.
Q: Can I preview how the resubscribe popup looks?
A: Yes. In the form editor (Back in stock alerts > Signup widget > Customize form), use the preview controls on the right side and click the Resubscribe button to see how the resubscribe state appears.
